The Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia is set to ignite Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend, marking the second round of the 2025 season. A robust 24-car grid promises thrilling competition, with standout performances anticipated under the Saturday night lights, broadcast live on 7mate.
Leading the charge is New Zealand’s Willie Exton of TekworkX Motorsport, fresh from two victories at the Phillip Island opener. Close on his heels is compatriot Tom Bewley (Team Porsche NZ / Earl Bamber Motorsport), whose consistent performance places him second in the standings. Jake Santalucia, the sole top-three driver with prior experience at the 3.93km Sydney circuit, currently holds third place.
Sonic Motor Racing’s Santalucia showcased resilience at Phillip Island, rebounding from an early setback to clinch his first Porsche win in Race 3. Lockie Bloxsom, with a trio of fourth-place finishes at the season opener, returns to Sydney aiming to capitalize on his previous experience at the track during the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia earlier this year.
Tyler Greenbury, a former karting champion turned team owner, is another to watch. He achieved his best one-make Porsche finish—second place—at Sydney Motorsport Park during the 2024 season finale.
Pro-Am and Class B Battles
In the Pro-Am category, Ramu Farrell leads the standings, buoyed by a victory at the 2024 Sydney finale. Notably, Lachy Harburg will skip this round, utilizing the Pro-Am ‘drop your worst round’ provision. Damien Flack’s successful comeback at Phillip Island remains a singular appearance for now.
Sydneysider Jacque Jarjo, the 2024 Class B champion, steps into Pro-Am for the first time this weekend. Jarjo previously made headlines with a surprise win in the opening Pro-Am race of the Carrera Cup earlier this year at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Class B leader Daniel Quimby impressed at Phillip Island by challenging the outright Pro cars and aims to replicate that performance. The class sees the return of Brayden Taylor (Wall Racing) for his first start of the 2025 season.
The weekend also welcomes two newcomers: Pro-Am entrant Kent Leicester and Harry Walker. Walker, grandson of the late Ron Walker—renowned for promoting the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix—debuts after competing in European GT4 and Ferrari Challenge events.
Looking Back: 2024 Sydney Finale
The 2024 season concluded dramatically at Sydney Motorsport Park, where Oscar Targett clinched his first national championship. Targett set a Sprint Challenge qualifying record with a 1:29.9823 lap and secured victories in the first two races, including a night race ahead of Ryan Suhle. Clay Osborne won the final race, with Tyler Greenbury achieving his career-best finish in second place.
